John Vandemoer was the head sailing coach at Stanford. He was possibly the least involved person in the college admission scandal. He kept NONE of the $750,000 he got, it all went into the sailing program. He plead guilty early on. He helped three people side-step into Stanford, but not really.
The government wanted 13 months in the slammer. He got one DAY, with credit for time served, as well as a $10,000 fine..
I don't know what, if anything, this will do to his pension or future employability. He is, after all, now a convicted felon. He earned no personal profit from it. Even the prosecution agrees with that. His program got some serious money. He seems genuinely remorseful and copped out early.
It should be noted that none of the three applicants he assisted actually got in on the sailing program. One sent his paperwork in too late, but got in with a standard admission application. No special help. The other two went to other schools when all was said and done and never did attend Stanford.
I find I can live with this.
