A city corrections officer brutally beaten by Rikers Island inmates was so badly hurt, he may never be able to carry his own child, his wife claims in a lawsuit.

Jean Souffrant suffered a broken neck and spinal injuries in the February 2018 beating by gangbanger Steven Espinal and others. Espinal was later sentenced to 10 years for the beatdown.

Souffrant suffers from flashbacks and limited mobility which has upended his and his wife Melissa’s lives, she said in a Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit seeking $1 million damages against the city and the Department of Corrections.

Rikers bosses should have known of Espinal’s “propensities for violence,” she argues in court papers.

The now-pregnant wife was unable to leave her husbands bedside for three months as he recovered and fears “he will not be able to take his role of a normal father” due to the lingering impact of his injuries.

The city will review the complaint, the Law Department said.
