CITY SUES OVER SINKING BUILDING

By Bob Walsh

The People's Republic of San Francisco has sued the developers of the rapidly sinking Millennium Tower residential skyscraper.

Regular readers will remember I have written about this before. The tower is NOT build down to bedrock and has sunk 16 inches in its eight year existence. It is also a tad out of plumb now, about six inches total for its 58 story height.

Cynic that I am I sort of feel this action by the city might be a crass attempt to avoid liability. After all the city approved the building and gave an occupancy permit.

The suit filed by the city against Mission Street Developers LLC is a sort of cross-complaint against a suit filed by the homeowners association against the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, the builders of the subway transit center that was built next door to the tower.

Condos in the building sold for as much as $10 million.
