Latest Act Of War: “Even From Iran We Didn’t Expect Something Like This”

Iran’s involvement in the Syrian civil war was at least partially for the sake of threatening Israel’s borders. But it’s position there is weakening thanks to unrelenting Israeli airstrikes and the coronavirus pandemic.

So Iran is looking for new ways to harm the Jewish state. And it’s willing to cross red lines to do so.

“This is an attack that goes against all the codes of war. Even from the Iranians we didn’t expect something like this,” a senior Israeli defense official was quoted as saying last week by Channel 13 News.

The official was speaking at a security cabinet meeting called to discuss an Iranian cyberattack on Israel’s water infrastructure.

No other information from the meeting was made available, as participating government ministers were made to sign confidentiality forms before entering the room.

Minimal damage

The cyber assault took place in late April. At the time, Israel’s Water Authority and Israel National Cyber Directorate confirmed the attack in a joint statement reading:

“There has been an attempted cyber breach of water command and control systems. The attempted attack was dealt with by the Water Authority and National Cyber Directorate. It should be emphasized that there was no harm to the water supply and it operated, and continues to operate, without interruption.”

Minor problems were reported at some water facilities.

Act of war

Israeli officials view this latest incident as one of the clearer acts of war by Iran agains the Jewish state in recent years.

How and when Israel will respond remains a closely guarded secret.

But it is certain that the Islamic Republic will not cease its efforts to fulfill its promise to destroy the State of Israel. Unless someone stops it first.
