WELL, THAT DIDN'T TURN OUT SO WELL

by Bob Walsh

A German woman named Lezime had a rough relationship. The woman had an abusive ex-husband who left her in a wheel chair after an axe attack. The woman got a protection dog when her husband was about to be released. She said she was afraid for her life and the lives of her four children.

Last Tuesday Lezime, 52, and her 27-year old son were both killed by the dog in their home. The Staffordshire Terrier named Chico was supposed to be put down but more than 260,000 people signed a petition to spare the dog's life.

A social worker had arranged for the family to take Chico to a trainer as the social worker had noted the dog seemed to be unduly aggressive and the neighbors complained of excessive barking. The family and the dog never showed and the authorities did not follow up. Whoops.

Many hundreds of people have offered to adopt the dog.
