ARE GALVESTON COUNTY COPS BEING CONNED BY MURDER SUSPECT?

Using heavy duty construction equipment for more than a week, authorities have been digging up a pasture in south Houston where Texas prison inmate and murder suspect William Reece told them the body of Jessica Cain is buried

On August 17, 1997, Jessica Cain, 17, disappeared after leaving a restaurant. Her pickup truck was found abandoned on I45 about five miles north of her home on Tiki Island, a tiny village just north of Galveston. There has been no sign of Jessica since.

In 1996, William Reece was released from an Oklahoma prison where he had been serving time for a sexual assault and kidnapping conviction. He settled down in Galveston County where soon afterwards girls began disappearing. He has been a suspect in the murders of girls found buried in the ‘Killing Fields’ in League City. Reece has been in a Texas prison since 1998 after his conviction in the kidnapping of another girl.

Reece has also been a suspect in Jessica Cain’s disappearance. And last September, Oklahoma authorities charged Reece with the 1997 murder of 19-year-old Tiffany Johnston. Because he does not want to be returned to Oklahoma, Reece notified authorities that Jessica’s body is buried in a south Houston pasture.

Reece, 56, was removed from prison and taken to be housed in a city jail in Galveston County. Every day he has been taken to the pasture to direct the search for Jessica. Every day for more than a week, heavy duty constriction equipment has been digging up the pasture. Now even an old barn on the property has been torn down and they are digging up the ground where the structure formerly stood. Still no signs of any human remains.

Call me a skeptic, but it looks like the cops are being conned by Reece. By leading the cops on a wild goose chase, Reece is on vacation from prison. I’m sure that the meals he’s now receiving are much better than the usual prison fare and he gets to spend much of his time out in the open air. And his sort-of-confession about Jessica’s disappearance will certainly delay his return to Oklahoma.

Today is the 11th day of digging. Hmmm, I wonder what the bill will come to for all that digging? Taxpayers, prepare to be shocked when the total spent on Reece’s vacation comes due.
