A group of former IDF
generals and senior security officials have called on President Donald
Trump to follow through with the Deal of the Century Peace plan and
enable Israel to declare sovereignty in Judea and Samaria in the coming
weeks.
Trump is slated to make a final decision on the historic move on Wednesday. US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman has returned to the US to participate in the meeting.
Before his departure, Habithonistim – Protectors of Israel, an organization that represents more than a thousand senior reserves military officers and combat soldiers, authored a letter and asked him to convey it to Trump.
In the missive, the generals thanked Trump for his “deep commitment to the State of Israel and the Jewish people.”
“We thank you to for recognizing our sovereign rights and our deep historical and religious connection to the land of Israel, by recognizing that Jerusalem is now and has always been our capital, and moving the Embassy of the United States to the city,” they wrote.
“Your farsighted vision for peace, which includes a recognition of Israel’s sovereign rights in Judea and Samaria – the cradle of Jewish civilization – has put wind in the wings of thousands of IDF officers and warriors and buffeted the sails of the Israeli nation as a whole,” the officers added.
According to the US-formulated Deal of the Century, Israel can declare sovereignty over parts of Judea and Samaria from the beginning of July.
The Deal of the Century, officially titled “Vision for Peace, Prosperity, and a Brighter Future,” calls for the Israeli annexation of some 30% of the territory in Judea and Samaria already under its control, with the remaining 70% becoming a Palestinian state.
“We stand now at a historic crossroads in the 4,000-year history of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. We trust that you will continue to work to secure the future peace of the people of Israel and of the Middle East as a whole by standing with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as he applies our sovereignty to our eastern frontier, the Jordan Valley and to our cities, villages and farms in Judea and Samaria in accordance with your visionary peace plan,” the letter said.
The letter concluded by invoking God’s words to Joshua “as he stood before the Jordan River, poised to lead the Nation of Israel to the Promised Land, so we say to you today: ‘Be strong and of good courage.'”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met earlier this month in Jerusalem with the Bithonistim who sought to express their support for Netanyahu and said that “American recognition of the move is of great importance and that this is a historic opportunity.”
One of the group’s leaders, Major General (Res.) Yitzhak Gershon told Netanyahu that “there is a paradigmatic shift in reality here. This decision on what will happen between the Jordan and the sea is one of the most important and dramatic in the current generation of the Zionist movement.”
Seemingly relating to Defense Minister Benny Gantz, he said that “unfortunately, I do not see another leader among us capable of leading this move. I do see those who are trying to interfere with this move.”
“Mr. Prime Minister, I ask you to do this not for yourself; for us, and especially for future generations,” he added.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Netanyahu better annex Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley quickly because if Trump fails to get reelected, White Obama Biden has already promised that with the exception of moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, he will undo everything else Trump has done for Israel.
