BROOKSVILLE, Florida — A Palm Bay-area man flung his cut-up hand at a Hernando County deputy while being arrested Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office said, telling him to "get some of this holy blood."
It was an act, an agency report noted, unwanted by the deputy. Later, the man slapped the same deputy’s hand after he was told he needed to stay in the emergency room for treatment, according to the report.
Scott Brian Edwards Jr., 43, of Melbourne, Fla., faces a charge of battery against a law enforcement officer. That’s on top of burglary and criminal mischief charges.
Deputies gave this account of the incident:
At about 2 a.m. Wednesday, a woman saw Edwards standing in front of a broken window at 940 S Broad Street in Brooksville and called 9-1-1.
When deputies arrived, they found him with a deeply cut hand. He was "agitated, screaming things that could not be understood, and throwing his hands up in the air," deputies said.
Edwards wouldn’t identify himself, deputies said, instead telling them his name was "Fuck You."
Then, deputies said, came the bloody baptism.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Edwards had broken a series of windows on a building.
He was taken to the Hernando County jail, where he was being held Thursday on $12,000 bail.
