Regular readers will remember that I have written about this S. F. building several times previously. The building has sunk now 18 inches since it was finished, and is now more than 14 inches out of plumb. A couple of days ago the city blocked off part of the sidewalk next to the building because windows are cracking in the building and at least one was threatening to pop out of it's frame and hit the street.
Pretty much everybody involved is suing pretty much everybody else involved over the building. The value of the condos there has dropped like a broken window out of a 50 story building. I don't know if the rents in the rental units has dropped accordingly.
I personally found it odd the city approved a building that tall that was NOT sunk down to bedrock to build the foundation, but what do I know? The building owners are blaming a subway station which was built very near the tower AFTER the tower was built.
I expect the lawyers will make a career out of this one.
