I remember many years ago, during the reign of Jerry Brown version 1.0, Jerry was pissed at the cost of telecommunications. He threatened to put up a state owned communication satellite to cut costs and maybe even make some income for the state. Didn't happen.
This time around it is somewhat different, with a different driving force. Governor Moonbeam is now wanting the state to launch its "own damn satellite" to battle climate change. He wants to work with a pack of lefties called "Planet Labs" to develop a satellite to track climate change. I guess he wants to make damn sure the data he gets supports his position, no matter what the reality of the situation might be.
Jerry did not give a cost estimate or launch date. He is good about being vague about shit like that. It makes him feel good, gives him moral superiority without ever having to actually DO anything but flap his lips.
He did say that no state money will go into the development of the satellite. Maybe he needs every nickel he can find to build his not-really-high-speed-train between North Buttcrack and South Buttcrack in the central valley, and the tunnels to steal water from NorCal so that his road dogs in SoCal can continue to have nice green golf courses.
If it wasn't for the fact this clown is the governor of the largest state in the union he would be a third-string comedian at a Catskills resort, during the off-season, following the talking dog act.
