The formerly great state of California has just passed a bill to the governor that will allow bars in specified cities, including Sacramento, Oakland, and San Francisco, to stay open until 0400 rather than the current last call time of 0200.
Maybe I am prejudiced but I don't like drunks and I don't like drunk drivers. I hacked a cab for a while and I took people home from bars who were falling down drunk at 10 a.m. They would walk to the neighborhood bar at 0600 when it opened and drink until they could not walk. Then they would take a cab home, pass out, and when they woke up do the same thing, often twice a day and sometimes three times a day.
It might, though, have the advantage of moving the wrong-way drunks back further in the night (morning) so as to kill fewer honest citizens coming home from the late shift.
Or Moonbeam might even veto it. Stranger things have happened. Especially in California.
