Calls for boycott of Walmart swamp the internet

One item on Walmart’s website is a T-shirt bearing the words “Impeach 45.” ‘45’ is a reference to the 45th U.S. president, Donald Trump. The shirt was available in adult sizes and in baby onesies.
The T-shirt so infuriated Trump supporters, that the internet was swamped with calls for a boycott of Walmart.
Ryan Fournier, chairman of Students for Trump, ignited the social media fury Monday night after he saw the T-shirt on Walmart’s website. Fournier tweeted, “why are you selling Impeach 45 baby clothes on your website????? What kind of message are you trying to send?”
The T-shirts are not sold in Walmart stores and the shirt on the website is not sold directly by Walmart, but by a third-party seller, Old Glory Music & Entertainment, a Connecticut-based vendor.
Glenn Morelli, president of Old Glory Music & Entertainment, responded to the uproar by telling Bloomberg News:
“We carry over 10,000 politically inspired T-shirts dealing with all aspects of politics, from liberal to conservative thought. We are an American company and we are proud to be American, and this is what we do: We sell T-shirts for a living.”
Walmart has removed the T-shirt from its website but it can still be ordered through other online retailers such as Amazon and Bonanza. So, will there be calls for a boycott of Amazon? I doubt it. I’ll bet the infuriated Ryan Fournier is a frequent buyer of items listed by Amazon.
Will there be a boycott of Walmart? Of course not! While a few ardent Trump supporters will boycott the retail giant, the Walmartians will keep coming and coming, and shortly, so will the boycotting Trumpites.
