The riparian brush rabbit is a smallish and rather cute rabbit. They are endangered and live only in a very small area of San Joaquin County in the formerly great state of California. As one might expect from their name they live in heavy brush close by river banks. The recent floods are hitting them hard.
A number of them have drowned. Some have been seen perched on the top of bushes where they are unfortunately easy pretty for hawks and owls. They also perch during high water on top of mounds made specifically for them for that purpose.
About 50 of the little buggers have been trapped or herded and moved to safety in a nearby area prepared just for their relocation. by biologists who are aiding in their relocation and who study them Others no doubt managed to make it there on their own. With luck the little buggers will start humping like rabbits and produce another generation to ensure their survival. They are, after all, cute. Cute is nice.
