The Sacramento broadcast news channels reported Sunday at 5 p.m. that significant areas of Oroville were being evacuated. It seems that authorities at DWR now believe that the emergency spillway, which has been in use for about one day now, may realistically fail in the very near future. This would led to a shitload of water running very deep and very fast down the feather river.
If it happens that would be major league not good. Also, at least to me, it seems strange that an emergency overflow spillway is on the verge of failing after only one day of water going over it. For that mater I can't figure out how the regular spillway has failed so spectacularly.
Somebody I expect will soon have some explaining to do. If that emergency spillway fails there will be lives lost and tremendous property damage. You can't make that go away by saying SHIT HAPPENS.
