A 42-year old man recently beat some very serious charges over sexual contact with a 9-year old girl. The interesting thing is he admitted to the acts, but still beat the charges and is now filing a civil suit.
Daniel Hughes entered a hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in St. Louis, MO. back in 2014. It wasn't his room. He stripped down to his underwear, climbed into bed with the 9-year old girl that was occupying the bed and initiated some sort of sexual contact with her.
His defense was he was drunk, the room clerk gave him the "wrong" key, and in his drunken and disoriented state he believed the girl was in fact a woman he had been out with socially earlier in the day. The jury bought it. He was found not-guilty on all counts.
He admits having asked for the "wrong" room key and faults the hotel for giving him the key without checking I.D. He is suing the hotel for unspecified damages. He was sacked by his employer, Enterprise Leasing, after his arrest. That loss of employment is the basis for the lawsuit.
