Alexander MacKinnon, 47, is a solicitor (civil lawyer) in the U.K. He happened to have been on a train from London to Glasgow recently when he went off on a woman, Sannaa Shahid and her young son, Zayn, who were seated in the first class carriage. He was recorded on cell-phone video going 5150 on Ms. Shahid and her son, expressing among other opinions that they had no business in first class, no business on the train, no business in the U. K. at all and should go back to wherever they came from. (They are in fact natives of Glasgow.)
Had Mr. MacKinnon not be so sloshed he might have recalled that the U. K. has some very strict laws about racially discriminatory utterances in public. In many ways they are even more PC than the U. S.
MacKinnon copped to racially aggravated public disorder and was fined about $1,500 plus costs.
Ms. Shahid was a trifle put off by the fact that the other passengers did not come to her aid, leaving her to run down the train manager (conductor?) MacKinnon was thrown off the train and arrested by the transport police.
Ms. Shahid had allowed that this was the first time she had ever been the focus of such an incident. The asshole was also recorded screaming obscenities at the kid.
