Five people were killed and seven others injured in several separate shootings Saturday in Baltimore, police said Sunday.
"It goes without saying that the level of violence in the city yesterday was deeply disturbing and deeply troubling,” Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said.
Baltimore ended 2019 with 348 homicides on record, according to data compiled by The Baltimore Sun.
The year set a grim record of 57 killings per 100,000 people, the city’s worst homicide rate on record.

Data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed the Maryland city had 2,004 sexually transmitted disease cases for every 100,000 people who lived there in 2018.
