Phocian Fitts, 23, of Massachusetts, is by any reasonable definite a dumb shit. He killed a nice old retired school teacher in a hit-and-run, and he honestly thinks that it is all good because he had no ill intent.
He was driving along just before 1:00 p.m. in Boston on Wednesday when he ploughed into a retired 80-year old art teacher who was in a crosswalk at the time. He was questioned briefly by the cops and then released without charge due to inadequate information. Then Fitts was questioned by a TV news reporter. Fitts then started yapping, in an apparent attempt to justify himself.
He told the WFXT people that that crash was unintentional. He admitted to listening to music and driving too quickly. He asserts that he had the green light and could not stop in time, so he just hit the horn and kept going. He said it was either nail the pedestrian or drive into a pole, so he hit the pedestrian. He added, "Accidents happen man."
There was a vehicle behind Fitts with a dash cam. The cops got the footage. It showed no braking either before or after impact. At about 1030 that evening Fitts was taken into custody for hit-and-run and vehicular homicide.
He is being held pending a $10,000 bail. He has been on probation since 2014 for thumping on a U. S. MAIL carrier. Assuming he gets out on bail he will be forbidden to drive (like that will actually work) and will have to wear an electronic monitor.
