'HEMP' FARMERS SHIT OUTTA LUCK

by Bob Walsh

If I have it right "hemp" is marijuana that has such a low THC content that it is useless for pretty much anything except as an industrial fiber. Legitimate research organizations are permitted to grow it for research purposes.

The American States University (of southern California), Cannabis Science Inc, and the Winnemucca Shoshoni tribe have recently been metaphorically kicked in the nut sack by a federal judge or two. The group is asserting that San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputies have in effect "stolen" about $77 million worth of "hemp" that they were "researching" in the CA delta area.

The growers sought a TRO against the county to stop them from seizing their product. S. J. County argued successfully that American States University does not meet any sort of reasonable criteria of being an established research institution. The University corporate status has been suspended. The "administrative dean" of the "university" is a disbarred lawyer who the state supreme court said committed many acts of moral turpitude and dishonesty.

The organizations own filing asserts that they sell their "hemp" to thousands of people for it's medical benefit. One would think that retail sales and legit research are two different things. At least that's what both the county government and a couple of federal judges think.
