DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL?

by Bob Walsh

The Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) has been around for slightly over 50 years. They built and now operate a pretty decent rail transit operation in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. (The people in Livermore may argue about the pretty decent part, but that is another story.) As far as I know there is NO transit operation in this country that pays for itself out of the fare box, not by a long shot. They also depend on grants and other kick-downs for the purchase of rolling stock.

That is why it makes no sense to me that the BART board of directors is seriously considering their own sanctuary policy. BART jurisdiction contains no housing and no significant businesses other than their own. Why the hell do they need a sanctuary policy, except to curry political favor with left-wing nut jobs?

Also, why would they be stupid enough to piss in the soup? They can't operate without federal money. Are they so stupid that they think Trump is going to continue to give them money if they front him off? Now I grant you it is possible that they will, in fact, "consider" a sanctuary policy and decide it is meaningless or even a bad idea.

It seems that some of the problem is reputed to be "law abiding" illegal aliens who are arrested and cited for fare evasion. They are afraid that if they show up to pay their tickets they will be gaffled up and deported.

MAYBE THEY SHOULD HAVE PAID THE FUCKING FARE IN THE FIRST PLACE. THAT'S WHAT LAW ABIDING PEOPLE DO.
