EMAILS SENT IN 2012 AND 2013 COST LA SHERIFF’S TOP COP HIS JOB

The emails consisted of jokes about blacks, Latinos, Muslims and others

In 2012 and 2013 when he was assistant police chief in Burbank, Tom Angel did something very foolish. He sent out some emails that consisted of jokes about blacks, Latinos, Muslims and others.

Angel is, or rather was, the Chief of Staff of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. In that position, he was second in command of the country’s largest sheriff’s department.

The media, always watchful for ‘bad cops’, dug up the old emails and made their existence public. Naturally the shit hit the fan. Civil rights activists demanded Angel’s scalp and they got it. Angel resigned.

Sheriff Jim McDonnell released the following statement: “This incident is one that I find deeply troubling. Chief Angel has offered his resignation, and I have accepted it. I thank him for his many years of service, and wish him and his family well.”

McDonnell sounds like he pressured Angel to hit the road.

The media destroyed a good man’s career over some dumbass emails he sent out three and four years ago. Racial jokes – guess who’s laughing last?

This is just one more example of why cops should keep their shit off of the internet. Once on the internet, whether it’s phone texting, emails, blogs, or comments to media reports or blogs, what’s said is there for eternity. Better yet, keep any shit all to themselves!
