Made some calls to large insurance companies and asked how they would rate cities with diminished or no police forces. Response: They do not know and are waiting to see if it actually happens.
Off teh rccord comments from long time
friends in the business is that would cancel insurance for any city
without police and severely rate those that diminish their police
forcess.
Reasons:
__Fire Departments rely on the police to do traffic and pedestrian control around fires and other casualties.
__The only armed persons in the frie department are the arson investigators.
__No police means the theft, burglary and arson rates will increase.
__No
police means that companies may be sued for not providing security for
their employees using their own cars or even public transit.
__No
police means there is no first responder to many scenes with life
saving training. Every cop goes through firs taid training and many
carry quick clot, tourniquets and airways.
__There
is a sense that the city officials are trying to shift the cost of
lawlessness to the property owner rather than catching and prosecuting
criminals.
After hearing
all of this my stomach has been roiling ever since. I have annuities
that invest in high rise office buildings all over the U.S. and some
investments are in the idiot cities. Called one of the annuity managers
and he said he was fully aware of the above and they were taking
measures to let the cities know that any such stupidity would result in
their ratings being dropped and the resulting consequence for the city.
No
confidence from me in this strategy. I used to go directly to city
councils and tell them in public that what they were doing is stupid and
self defeating.
That was another day. No one is listening now, and all hell is about to break out.
