Sheila O'Brien is the retired appellate court judge who has petitioned for a special prosecutor to review the proceedings of the Jussie Smollett case. The matter came before Judge LeRoy Martin Jr. Briefly. Ms. O'Brien challenged Judge Martin and asked that he recuse himself. She expressed concern about Martin's son, who has worked in the Cook County Prosecutor's Office for the last three years.
She stated on the record, "You're going to decide whether the state's attorney, your son's boss, is telling the truth. Your son's career is tied to the potential witness' career."
Martin postponed the hearing for one week to give him time to consider the matter. He was clearly pissed, stating "It troubles me that we're having this discussion about my family member because bringing one's family into these kinds of circumstances is troubling."
That being said I suspect that, even in the corrupt shithole one-party-town of Chicago that the judge will have to back away, especially since the challenge is now on the record. But you never know. Also it does appear that Martin III had no connection of any kind with the Smollett case.
There is also alleged to be some concern that this investigation, if it proceeds, will cause issues with the current, ongoing I G investigation.
