Scott N. Johnson is a lawyer. He is also a quadriplegic. He has sued several thousand small businesses in NorCal, alleging violation of the ADA. He has driven some of these businesses out of business and made a very good living for himself, taking the actions down to an assembly line science.
He is now facing three counts of income tax fraud for filing false tax returns.
He routinely settles his lawsuits for about $5,000, give or take. Many businesses simply pay up rather than fighting it out in court, which would cost more. His most recent suit is against a retail establishment in San Jose, where a portion of the lowered counter was covered in display merchandise.
Odd that he would be in San Jose food and liquor store. He lives in Sacramento.
His lawyer said the charges are not that important, what is important is the fact that he has done such wonderful work by pushing small businesses into ADA compliance. Translation: He is guilty and we are hoping to obfuscate our way to victory.
