WHATS NEW IN URANUS

by Bob Walsh

Yes, I got Volume 1 Issue 1 of the Uranus Examiner in the mail today. Regular readers will remember I wrote about this almost a month ago. When the local fishwrapper went belly up a couple of people got together in the city of Uranus, Pulaski County, Missouri, and started up a new local newspaper called THE URANUS EXAMINER.

This is 28 pages, tabloid layout. Much of it is in color. They have a police column, crossword page (with Soduku), city news, all the usual neat stuff. There are several fire arms training, gunsmith and gun store ads. There is a 1/4 page piece about a reality show about to be filmed in Uranus which I think is legit. There is a brief column written by the mayor, called THE MAYOR'S VIEW FROM URANUS.

There is an ad which leads in with LOCAL MAYORS TEAM UP TO PUMP URANUS ON A REGULAR BASIS. It's for a septic tank service company. There is a full page ad for a local candy producer, the URANUS FUDGE FACTORY. There is a half page ad from the Mission Outpost Outfitters, with a lead line of IMPROVE YOUR AIM IN URANUS. There is at least one indoor range in town and a place where you can play Archery Dodgeball, which is apparently trying to shoot other participants with foam-tipped arrows. They also do paintball.

There is a local and national sports page. All in all a very creditable rag. I am going to see if I can get a regular mail subscription.
