When I began passing on info about some of the current fires burning in the formerly great state of California I mention a new law from last year that insulated PG&E from liability for fires caused by their equipment. That law covered ONLY the Tubbs fire and not all fires in general. That was my bad.
PG&E stock has dropped not quite 50% in the last week. They have announced that their insurance will not come any where near covering damages from the Camp Fire if it is found their equipment started it.
As of now there are 71 known dead and over 1,000 missing. Not quite 1,000 structures have been burned, mostly private homes and small businesses. The city of Paradise is pretty much wiped out.
PG&E got an equipment trouble signal from the area the fire started at the time it started so the smart money is betting that their equipment did indeed start the fire.
