While demolishing a cinema to do some renovation in Brindisi, Italty they discovered a WWII era bomb, a 440 pounder. The entire city of 54,000 was evacuated, except for a prison and a couple of hospitals, which were locked down.
The bomb was defused by a remotely controlled robot and will be moved to a safe location for detonation. I can see evacuating a few blocks but the whole city? Of course I don't live there, and it wasn't my ass on the line if it went sideways.
