The State Brigade of Search for Missing Persons found more than 2,000 bone fragments, mostly phalanges, in Culiacán, Sinaloa; total could reach more than 5,000 bone fragments from 150 people.

Last weekend, authorities in Mexico found more than 2,000 fragments of hand bones. According to El Universal, the bones were in plastic bags that had been abandoned in a garbage dump of a private subdivision in the city of Culiacán, in the state of Sinaloa.

According to forensic analysis, some of the bone parts also correspond to foot bones and belong to adults, adolescents and children. “I can't believe they are human. There are so very many, ”says one of the experts of the investigation. At the moment the whereabouts of the other parts of the bodies are unknown.

People who belong to the State Brigade of Search for Missing Persons, they have not stopped looking for their relatives in drug-controlled areas in Culiacán, Sinaloa , as was so a few days ago when they found the macabre find: more than 2,000 fragments of hand bones .

On August 24, they found the largest number of bones that belonged to about 150 people, including children . The clandestine dump is located near the private subdivision La Primavera bags that contained the fragments of bones of hands and, apparently, also of feet, according to the forensic personnel of the area.

Alma Rosa Rojo of the organization of search for missing Hands United for life, told a local news outlet that it could even be up to 5,000 fragments , about 150 people, but experts are analyzing them.

The works were led by the State Commissioner of Search for Missing Persons, Juan Carlos Saavedra, who revealed that he had found an area that was apparently used as a clandestine cemetery, since there were thousands of phalanges and other remains in plastic bags.

"Who would determine the experts, and they will do the accounting of how many bone remains and how many phalanges there are, they will end how many people or how many hands were mutilated, " he said.

To the south of the municipality of Culiacán, in the vicinity of the residential complex La Primavera, they found three positive points, in the first one there was a complete corpse, in the second some skeletal remains and in the third plastic bags with phalanges of all sizes, the count preliminary indicated that there were more than 5,000.

The bags were degraded by water and sun , so some remains were scattered around, possibly also by some animals in the region.

In the area they also found several clothing items so they do not rule out that there may be more bodies in the surroundings , situation for which they will continue searching.

The finding was in charge of the State Brigade of Search for Missing Persons, made up of citizens trying to find the whereabouts of their loved ones. The group has been working since May 15, detecting mass graves, with the collaboration of the State Search Commission and the National and State Human Rights Commission.

In the last 20 years in Mexico, 57,861 people have been reported missing, according to a 2017 report by the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH).
