LO AMO OR HATE HIM, TODAY IS COLUMBUS DAY

It is no longer politically correct to celebrate Columbus Day

It was just a few years ago that all Americans celebrated Columbus Day. But times have changed as it is no longer politically correct to do so. The PC crowd is all riled up over old Chris killing and enslaving Indians.

The mayor of Columbus, Ohio announced last week that his city would not celebrate Columbus Day. There have been shrill calls for the City of New York to rename Columbus Circle and the PC crowd is demanding that all statues of the explorer be taken down.

Italian-Americans would revolt if Columbus Circle were to be renamed and New York has a large Italian community. While the PC crowd may hate Columbus, the Italians lo amo.

I would like to think that the exchange of gifts between the crew Columbus brought along and the Indians is the most notable legacy of the discovery of America. The crew gave the Indians smallpox, while the Indians returned the favor by giving the crew syphilis.

Both gifts were the gifts that keep giving. The smallpox spread throughout the Indian population while the syphilis spread throughout Europe.

In view of the exchange of gifts, I see no reason why all Americans should not celebrate Columbus Day.
