MARINE CORPS D.I. CONVICTED OF BEING MEAN TO MUSLIMS

by Bob Walsh

This past Friday a military court convicted former U. S. Marine Corps Drill Instructor Gunnery Sergeant Joseph Felix of maltreatment of those under his command. He was sentenced to ten years in prison and a dishonorable discharge. The prosecution had asked for seven years. He could have gotten as much as 21.

Gunny Felix's main problem was that he focused his unpleasantness primarily on Muslim recruits, harassing three them to the point that one committed suicide. He was found guilty of three counts of maltreatment, as well as multiple counts of disobeying general orders. They also threw in drunk and disorderly and making false statements to investigators.

Any verdict that carries more than one year confinement or a dishonorable discharge is subject to an automatic appeal.
