A group of masked and gloved looters were photographed using pliers and hammers to prize open the heavy metal safe inside a Minneapolis police station on Saturday.
The extraordinary images were taken amid the smoldering remains of the 3rd Precinct headquarters two nights after rioters lit the building on fire.
Protests that originally began in Minneapolis over the death of George Floyd on May 25 have spread across the country as people protest police brutality.
When DailyMail.com journalists visited the scene in Minneapolis over the weekend there was still no visible police presence whatsoever.
A stash of discarded police CDs with labels marked 'evidence', 'analysis of surveillance disks' and 'theft' had been dumped in a neighboring alley.
'The message coming from the looters was loud and clear,' our photojournalist remarked. 'We are in charge now and we will do whatever we like.'
