Carri Webber is a police captain with the Plainfield, Indiana P.D. During a more or less polite conversation with another cop, which was off-camera but had sound picked up, an officer responded to an alleged statistic. The statistic was given out during a training session. It was that transgender people are three times more likely to experience police violence than others are. The white male cop responded, "...I don't get where that statistic comes from." Captain Webber responded, "...because of your white male privilege."
The white male cop responded, "Chief, are you going to let her get away..." with the comment, which the officer described as "extremely offensive."
The white male officer went on to file a complaint on November 10, saying he was "racially and sexistly slurred"
Captain Webber is now on leave by action of the Plainfield Board of Commissioners. She also got her butt in a crack back in August for sucking up some brews at a golf outing and then driving away in a police vehicle. When she was stopped she had several beer cans in the vehicle. She got two weeks on the beach for that.
It is not clear from the article I read whether or not the recording was part of the training session or served some other purpose. It seems likely that she was aware the recording was being made.
Personally it seems to me like her remark was fair and reasonable given the setting in which it was made. That doesn't mean she was RIGHT, just that in that setting the comment was not out of bounds IMHO.
