BORIS SUSPENDED PARLIAMENT

by Bob Walsh

Boris Johnson is having a bad month. During his last speech members of his own party actually physically crossed the aisle and took up seats with the opposition WHILE HE WAS SPEAKING. His own brother, and MP and member of the government, bailed out on him. As one of the MPs said, in a beautiful piece of British understatement, "You're not off to a good start Boris."

He has kicked the 21 MPs who jumped ship on him out of the Conservative party.

He has suspended Parliament (the actual term is prorogation) until October 14. Just about their last act was to enact a law to try to block a no-deal Brexit and to order the government to release private communications about its Brexit plans. They rejected the PMs call for a snap election, the first time that has EVER happened.

It is getting complex and messy. Parliament wants Johnson to request yet another extension from the EU. He has, thus far, said HELL NO. His stated position is that deal or no deal, Brexit will go ahead on October 31. It is not even completely clear that the EU would grant yet another extension, though it seems likely they would.

More distracting fun for us to watch, to take our minds off our own political issues.
