FIRST THE LOSS, THEN THE KICK IN THE NUTS

by Bob Walsh

Regular readers of BGB will know that last month SCOTUS ruled that public employee unions could not force non-members to pay a "fair share" or "agency" fee for representation. The National Right To Work Foundation has just filed to compel the SEIU Local 1000, a large union representing various mostly clerical and miscellaneous workers in CA, to refund a buttload of money to about 40,000 current and former members due to their overly burdensome "opt out" procedure. This would cost SEIU a tad over $100 million by rough estimate, retroactive to 2012.

In 2012 SCOTUS ruled that SEIU Local 1000 had inappropriately charged employees a "political action fee" without their consent. They might actually make this fly, which would either seriously cripple or even kill off SEIU Local 1000. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of asswipes.
