SOMETIMES "FACTS" DON'T LINE UP

by Bob Walsh

Regular readers will remember a while back I wrote about the private autopsy report generated for the family of Stephon Clark. The man who did the report was an imminently qualified and as far as I know honest guy. The family clearly had an agenda. I am not aware that the private medical examiner did.

The official post mortem was just been released. It differs substantially from the unofficial one. Sacramento county hired an independent pathologist to do the official exam due to the possibility of a perceived conflict of interest.

The official exam says that Stephon Clark was shot only seven times, not eight. In addition it states that he was most likely shot several times from the front, and that those shots were fired first. The unofficial exam asserts that Clark was shot only from the back. In addition the official report states that Clark was legally drunk and also had weed, coke and codeine in his system. The unofficial report did not speak to this issue. There is also some good footage of the shooting, including from the air, which supports the cops story that Clark was moving towards them when they fired.

It would be nice if medicine was as exact a science as many of it's adherents would have you believe. It's really not.

EDITOR'S NOTE: It would seem that this is a case of 'you get what you pay for.' Clark's family got the results they wanted and the county got the results it wanted.
