MAYBE GOOD IDEA, MAYBE WRONG WAY OF GOING ABOUT IT

by Bob Walsh

Michael Adams, 27, really does not like "gangsta rap." He is a White guy, that might have something to do with it. He also just might have some sort of reasonable taste in music. You never know. In any event he is now facing murder charges over the issue.

He encountered Elijah Al-Amin, 17, at the Circle K Store in Peoria, Arizona. Al-Amin, who is Black, was playing the music on the sounds system in his car in the parking lot. Al-Amin was in the car. Adams, who had just been released from state prison two days prior, stated that he believed the "music" indicated that Al-Amin was a threat to him personally and to the community in general and so he slit Al-Amin's throat, thereby negating the threat.

Adams is currently a guest of Maricopa County pending a $1 million bail. I suspect the bail will not be forthcoming any time soon. I also strongly suspect that slitting someone's throat is a violation of his parole (assuming that he was paroled and had not maxed out).

It will be interesting to see what direction his defense takes. Maybe they can get a couple of retired music teachers on the jury. That might give him some traction.
