Sheila Jackson Lee, Frederica Wilson and Maxine Waters declare that the term African-Americans for blacks is no longer acceptable since there are white African-Americans too
Three prominent members of the congressional black caucus issued a joint statement Monday in which they condemned the term African-Americans as being incorrect and thus no longer acceptable.
Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, Frederica Wilson of Florida and Maxine Waters of California, three of the most outspoken members of the congressional black caucus, said:
“The term African-American should apply only to persons born in Africa who migrated to the U.S. In fact, a white person born in Africa who migrated to the U.S. is also an African-American. Unless you were born in Africa before coming to America, you should not be referred to as an African-American if you are black, especially since there are white African-Americans too.” The correct term to use is Afrimericans.
African-Americans for blacks who are native Americans is no more acceptable than the terms Colored or Negro. This is not a matter of political correctness, it’s a matter of simple correctness.”
“The use of the term Afrimerican in no way diminishes the pride we have in our African heritage.”.
Appearing at an anti-Israel forum, Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib praised the joint statement while condemning the “Zionist-American control of Congress.” Omar, a member of the black caucus, said “Having been born in Somalia, I am a true African-American. Tlaib, who was born in Detroit, said “I am very comfortable in being called an Afrimerican.”
AOC said “I’ve just returned from the border where Latin-American children are being treated like concentration camp inmates. I have always felt the term African-American was a misnomer. Sheila, Frederica and Maxine are spot on!”
Michelle Obama was asked for her thoughts on the statement. She said: “My sisters Sheila, Freddie and Max make me proud. I know that as a black woman born in America, I had to work much harder than whites to become a lawyer and to be successful. The term Afrimericans is a good fit, especially for Barack. Now that Barack is an Afrimerican, maybe that will remove any lingering thoughts in President Trump’s infantile head that my husband was born in Africa.”
Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, Colin Kaepernick, Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Beyoncé and Susan Rice all agreed that Afrimericans was the correct term to use.
Hollywood celebrities Charlize Theron and Orlando Bloom, and inventor/entrepreneur Elon Musk, quickly joined in by declaring they are proud to be white African-Americans. They were born in South Africa.
White celebrities agreeing with the term Afrimericans include Ellen DeGeneres, Barbara Streisand, George Clooney, Bruce Springsteen, Cher, Alec Baldwin, Bruce(lla)/Caitlyn Jenner and Megan Rapinoe. Jenner also called for the term Transmericans to be applied to transgenders like him/her.
But Condoleezza Rice said, “The silly season is upon us. I suppose this means a black man born in the Bahamas who came to the U.S. would be a Bahmerican. I’m not a hyphenated American or an Afrimerican. I’m an American, and unlike some of our ungrateful athletes like Colin Kaepernick and Megan Rapinoe, I’m very proud of it! To the three dippy congresswomen, I say bah!”
And President Trump tweeted: “Afrimericans? Those three daffy ducks belong on the funny farm, not in Congress. We’re all Americans, not hyphenated Americans. And I still have my doubts about Barack Hussein Obama. MAGA.”
