The People's Republic of San Francisco has some strange laws. One of them says that, if you are a landlord, and you evict a tenant because you are going out of the rental business, you may not renovate or rebuild the former rental unit for a period of ten years.
The 22 year old law was overturned by a California appeals court.
Another ordinance, also struck down recently, required the landlord to pay reasonable relocation expenses and up to $50,000 for two years rent differential to the relocated tenants.
