Well known conservative speaker Ben Shapiro is scheduled to speak at UC Berkeley Thursday evening. The powers that be at Berkeley are, as of now, asserting that they will protect the free speech rights of Mr. Shapiro and the campus group that invited him. I will, however, refrain from asking them to drop their pants and do a testicle check just yet. They have said this before and then peed all over their own shoes.
At least up front they talk a good game. They are closing off the part of the campus where the speech will be given (Zellerbach Hall) and will, again allegedly, do an ID check of people allowed to pass. The last time they simply allowed anti-fa thugs to push past the police barriers and "blend" into the crowed, assuming the crowed was wearing all black, masks and carrying shields, pepper spray and clubs.
Last time around masked "protesters" did $100,000 worth of damage to "protest" a conservative speaker who was cancelled and never showed up. A second conservative speaker was cancelled due to alleged inability of the powers that be to ensure her security.
Only ticket holders will be allowed into the event. ID will be matched against the names of the ticket holders (again, allegedly). The venue will seat 2,000 people. The university has refused to release more than 1,000 tickets. The 1,000 they have released have sold out. Allegedly the cops advised the university to NOT sell balcony seats due to security issues.
It will be fun to see if the gutless bastards are going to do their job or piss on their own shoes again.
