Saturday was a spirit-lifting day for Harvey flood ravaged Houstonians. The Houston Astros were back at Minute Maid Park for a double-header against the New York Mets. The home team won the first game 12-8.
During the fourth inning of the second game, Mets slugger Wilmer Flores, who had hit his 18th homer of the season in the first game, was at bat. Then … pop … the unthinkable happened. No, Astros pitcher Brad Peacock did not deliberately throw one of his fast balls at Flores.
Flores swung at a Peacock pitch and … pop … hit a foul directly into his own nose. The ball struck his nose so hard that his helmet popped off of his head.
Flores was taken off the field with blood gushing from a severely broken nose. It is believed the injury is a season-ending one.
To add insult to injury, the Astros won this game too by a score of 4-1.
