CALIFORNIA ABOUT TO BE MADE SAFE … FROM UNHEALTHY FASHION MODELS

By Bob Walsh

Assemblyman Mark Levine, Democrat from Marin County, wants to make California safe from unhealthy fashion models. To accomplish this goal he has proposed AB2539, which is up for its first vote tomorrow in the Assembly Committee on Labor and Employment.

This proposal would, among other things, require that modeling agencies be registered with the state. It would specify that models are employees and not contract workers, and would require that the state Occupational Safety and Health Board establish standards for models.

I don’t know about you, but I for one am glad that I will not have my body image assailed by overly thin, anorexic models in the Duluth Trading Company catalog, assuming those catalogs are photographed in California (which they are not, and are illustrated rather than photographed anyway).
