A new law taking effect in Illinois this year alters the legal status of domestic pets during divorce proceedings. Now a judge is required to consider the best interests of the critter when assigning custody-ownership-visitation for the critter.
I admit I find this a little strange, and see it as possibly a slippery slope issue, but in the main I have no big problem with it.
EDITOR'S NOTE: I believe this would also include, birds, fish, turtles, snakes, mice, rats, pot bellied pigs, etc., etc.
