As someone who worked for 24 years in the CA state prison system I know of where I speak. The whole concept of a maximum security dormitory is ludicrous.
On Friday at about 1035 a.m. four inmates were found dead in the maximum security dorm at the Kirkland Correctional Center in Columbia, South Carolina. The prison was built in 1975 and is therefore fairly young as prisons go. The inmates housed there are considered the most dangerous in the state. The system reception center is also there, processing 15,000 intakes per year.
Denver Simmons, 35, and Jacob Philip, 35, are suspected of the murders. Both are lifers with two murder convictions each to their credit.
