PRIVATE PRISONER TRANSPORT OPERATOR BITES THE DUST

by Bob Walsh

Transportation of prisoners around the country is an interesting business. Except for certain high-profile cases or large departments with relatively deep pockets much of this work i done by private operators with armed security guards whose training, equipment and procedures may be lacking in the extreme.

Witness Cedric Marks, a trained MMA fighter. He refused to take a TB test which would have allowed him to take air transport so instead he was transported by ground transport. En route from Michigan to Texas to face two murder charges in the deaths of his ex and her current BF.

He managed to escape from a van with nine other prisoners and two guards. The transport company, Texas Prisoner Transport Services, is closing down in the wake of this escape.

In my experience with this sort of operation (that experience is not huge but neither is it inconsequential) some of them seem to be very competent and some of them are bubba operations. I have no idea which end of the spectrum this one is / was.
