TEXT TAX

by Bob Walsh

Like any good liberal the power structure of the formerly great state of California believes that all the money belongs to the government and that you only get to keep what they feel like letting you keep. They have some very creative ways of taking it away from you. For instance, in San Francisco they tax you for the rain that falls on your property. Really.

The Public Utilities Commission, a regulatory body, now wants to tax text messages. Presumably this will be accomplished by putting a tax on band width or some other mechanism. I don't even own a text capable portable device but could possibly still end up paying the tax.

The PUC hearing will be coming up next month. I expect the screaming will be loud. Maybe even loud enough to instill some fear in the minds of these unelected bureaucrats.

It is a situation to be sincerely hoped for.
