The McClatchey Newspaper Group, which publishes something like 25 decent size papers in the U.S., including the Sacramento BEE, has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. They hope to continue publishing once they restructure their debt. At one time owning a newspaper was like having a license to print money, not any more. There are now decent size cities with NO general circulation daily newspaper.
I still like having a newspaper to hold in my hand while I'm on the can in the morning, but I am a serious traditionalist.
