Donald Trump announced yesterday that he would veto the continuing budget resolution that was coming his way as it did NOT contained the border security funding he was PROMISED by the congress earlier this year.
Much of the house had already beat feet for the holidays. Will they come back? Don't count on it. Most of the Senate was still in town, so back to work they went. If Trump isn't bluffing he fully intends to let `17% of the government shut down if he does not get what he wants and what he was promised.
A lot of presidents, going back to Regan, bought the okeydoke on this issue from congress. They all got stiffed. Some didn't mind. Some did. Trump seems to be willing to make an issue of it. With justification. THIS is the issue that got him elected. If he wants to get elected again he needs to be willing to die on that hill. It is clear that there is no way in hell the incoming congress will give him what he wants. So if he doesn't get it out of this congress he ain't gonna get it at all.
Personally I've got no problem with 17% of the government going away for a while. I think he should hang tough.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Trump ain't a gonna git $5 billion from Congress for a wall we really don't need.
