ITALIAN ELECTION VERY INTERESTING

by Bob Walsh

The anti-EU populist forces make a massive sweep in Italy on Sunday, putting the European Union into an even shakier position than it was when the Limeys voted to bail out. (The European Union documents were signed in Rome 60 years ago.)

The 5-Star movement in Italy was the big winner on Sunday. It was started by noted comedian Beppe Grillo. I guess they aren't laughing right now. It will be very instructive to see what kind of coalition government can be put together.

John Olvier, a well-known comedian on cable TV in the U.S., has been sort-of angling for the Prime Minister job in Italy if they can't agree on anybody else. It seems that there is no legal requirement for the Prime Minister to be an actual citizen or even resident of Italy. That being said, he probably won't get the gig. Probably.
