The pissing contest between Delta Airlines, the NRA and the State of Georgia has just gotten serious. Millions of dollars worth of serious.
Many businesses who had prior associations with the NRA have cut those ties within the last two weeks. These ties were generally represented by 5-10% discounts to affiliate members by those businesses, such as Delta Airlines. They have chosen this route because presumably they, through some tortured logic, blame the NRA for the shooting in Parkland, Florida. (It would make just as much sense to blame the manufacturer of the automobile that the asshole drove to the school, and perhaps more.)
In any event Georgia has carried thru on it's promise-threat to withdraw a fuel tax break for airlines. This will hit Delta the hardest as their main operating hub is there.
Delta CEO, Ed Bastain, has been quoted as saying that their values are not for sale. The Georgia legislature on Thursday cut out the fuel tax break. It will be interesting to see who, if anybody, "wins" this little game of chicken. The rumor mill says that there is already substantial grass roots backlash IN FAVOR OF the NRA in this matters, including significant increases in contributions and membership starts, renewals and extensions.
Damn, mixing politics and business is so much fun.
