A cartoon which depicts a Black Panther slashing the throat of a police officer and advocates the murder of cops, does not violate its “community standards,” so says Facebook

Micah Johnson, the killer of five Dallas cops, used Facebook to express his admiration of militant anti-police groups like the Black Panthers, the African American Defense League and the Black Riders Liberation Party. On July 2, Johnson ranted against white people on his Facebook page.
On Wednesday, the day before her brother shot 12 Dallas officers, Nicole Johnson ranted against the police on Facebook. According to the Daily Mail, she accused “white people” of “killing us off” and “hiding behind that blue suit” before adding, “These cops need to get a taste of the life we now fear.”
In the wake of white cops shooting black men in Louisiana and Minnesota, Facebook has published hundreds of similar hateful anti-police rants, some even calling for the murder of cops.
Soon after Johnson shot the 12 Dallas cops, the African American Defense League used its Facebook page with this message: “ATTACK EVERYTHING IN BLUE EXCEPT THE MAIL MAN, UNLESS HE IS CARRYING MORE THAN MAIL.”
Worst of all, Facebook posted a despicable cartoon posted by Prince Mamuhammad on the Black Panther Party Mississippi page. The cartoon shows a man dressed in Black Panther garb standing behind a uniformed police officer and slashing his throat with a large knife as blood squirts out of the wound.
The cartoon is captioned: “As a R.B.G. killer panther I pledge to defend my black community by any means necessary.” (R.B.G. stands for the red, black and green colors of the Pan-African flag.)
The cartoon is reminiscent of similar cartoons in the Black Panther Coloring Book handed out to kids in Oakland, California 50 years ago by the original Black Panthers.
When Facebook was asked to remove the gruesome cartoon - which clearly advocates the murder of cops - it refused, saying that it does not “promote graphic violence” and does not violate its “community standards.”
Community standards? With that cartoon and some of the hateful anti-police rants it has published, Facebook has shown that it is absolutely devoid of any civilized community standards!
I know that the First Amendment gives people the right to say what they want, but it does not allow them to incite riots or the murder of cops.
Facebook is under no obligation to publish reprehensible rants that advocate the murder of cops, nor does it violate anyone’s First Amendment rights by its refusal to do so. By publishing calls for the murder of cops like the throat-slashing cartoon and that by the African American Defense League, Facebook shares a significant amount of responsibility for the murder of five Dallas cops.
